Curriculum

Taught to the Uttar Pradesh Board syllabus

Shanti Niketan Inter College follows the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) curriculum throughout, leading to the High School examination at Class 10 and the Intermediate examination at Class 12.

Every Child Known

Class sizes are small enough that teachers know each student individually and can act early when a child begins to struggle.

Hindi and English Together

Teaching draws on both languages so that no child is held back by language while learning the subject itself.

Regular Assessment

Unit tests, half-yearly and pre-board examinations run through the year, so progress is measured continuously rather than only at the end.

Parents Kept Close

Parents are welcome at the school office during working hours and are told promptly about attendance, results and conduct.

Stages of Learning

Five stages, one school

Each stage has its own purpose. Together they take a child from their first day of school to their board examination.

Nursery – UKG

Foundation Years

A gentle first experience of school, where children learn through play, conversation, rhyme and activity.

  • Spoken English and Hindi through songs, stories and daily conversation
  • Early number sense, shapes, colours and patterns
  • Pencil control, drawing and pre-writing practice
  • Sharing, routine and confidence away from home
Class 1 – 5

Primary School

The years where reading, writing and arithmetic become secure, and curiosity is given room to grow.

  • Hindi, English, Mathematics, Environmental Studies
  • Reading fluency and written expression in both languages
  • Mental arithmetic and problem solving
  • Art, craft, music and physical activity through the week
Class 6 – 8

Middle School

Subjects separate out and students begin working with real independence, guided by subject teachers.

  • Science, Mathematics, Social Science, Hindi, English
  • Computer education and practical digital skills
  • Project work, presentations and group learning
  • Study habits and time management built ahead of the board years
Class 9 – 10

  • Regular unit tests, half-yearly and pre-board examinations
  • Doubt-clearing sessions and revision through the year
  • Guidance on choosing a senior secondary stream
Class 11 – 12

Senior Secondary

Specialisation in Science, Arts or Commerce, leading to the U.P. Board Intermediate examination.

  • Three streams offered: Science, Arts and Commerce
  • Full U.P. Board (UPMSP) Intermediate syllabus
  • Pre-board examinations and structured board preparation
  • Guidance on courses and careers after Class 12
Class 11 & 12

Senior Secondary Streams

All three streams are taught at this school, so a student’s choice is a real one — not limited to whatever the school happens to run.

Science

For students heading towards engineering, medicine, computing and research.

The Science stream suits students who enjoy working things out from first principles. Alongside the theory, students carry out the practical work the U.P. Board syllabus requires, and are prepared for the competitive examinations that follow Class 12.

Subjects

  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Mathematics / Biology
  • Hindi
  • English

Arts / Humanities

For students drawn to language, society, history and public life.

The Arts stream builds the reading, writing and reasoning that underpin degrees in humanities and law, teacher training, and preparation for civil services and other competitive examinations.

Subjects

  • History
  • Civics / Political Science
  • Geography / Sociology
  • Hindi
  • English

Commerce

For students interested in business, accounts, banking and finance.

The Commerce stream introduces the accounting, business and economic reasoning that leads on to B.Com and BBA degrees, professional accountancy courses, and work in banking and administration.

Subjects

  • Accountancy
  • Business Studies
  • Economics
  • Hindi
  • English

Subject combinations follow the standard U.P. Board pattern. The school office will confirm the exact combinations available for the current session.

Assessment

Progress measured through the year

Not only at the end of it, when it is too late to act.

Unit tests

Short, regular tests that show whether a topic has actually landed before the class moves past it.

Half-yearly examinations

A full assessment at the midpoint of the session, marked to board standards.

Pre-board examinations

For Classes 10 and 12 — a complete rehearsal of the board paper, under board conditions.

Board examinations

The U.P. Board High School and Intermediate examinations, conducted by UPMSP.
